Nickel sulfate is an inorganic substance, there are three kinds of anhydrous (NiSO4), hexahydrate and heptahydrate. Most of the commercial products are hexahydrate, with α-type and β-type variants, the former is blue tetragonal crystals, and the latter is green monoclinic crystals. It loses six crystal water when heated to 103°C. Easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethanol and methanol, its aqueous solution is acidic, slightly soluble in acid and ammonia water, and toxic. Mainly used in the electroplating industry, it is the main nickel salt for electroplating nickel and chemical nickel, and also the source of metal nickel ions. It can dissociate nickel ions and sulfate ions during the electroplating process.
Chemical formula: NiSO4.6H2O
Relative molecular weight: 262.86
